Garmin
Open the activity in Garmin Connect, use the gear menu, and download the original. That file is FIT.
Strava
Open the activity, then the menu, and export the original. ActivityMerge joins FIT. GPX and TCX come later.
Other devices
Export the recording as FIT when the device or app offers it. Drop both parts here.
One file is not enough yet. Add the second part of the same recording.

How it works in 3 steps
- Add the files. Drop the parts of the recording. They stay on this device.
- Check the preview. Confirm the order, the pause, and the route or chart.
- Download. Save the merged FIT file and upload it where you keep the activity.
Export
Download the original FIT for each part. In Strava, export the original. In Garmin Connect, download the original. GPX drops channels this merge is meant to keep.
What is preserved
The result is one FIT file with the records, laps, and the device you select. Upload that file to Strava or Garmin Connect, then delete the originals.
Questions
Why are there two activities?
The watch saved the first part when the recording stopped, then started a second file.
Should I delete the originals?
After the merged file is uploaded, delete them. Kudos on those activities are lost.
Does the pause count as moving time?
No. It stays in the elapsed time unless you remove the gap.
Which export should I use?
The original FIT from Strava or Garmin Connect, not a GPX summary.
Can I merge more than two parts?
Yes, up to 10 FIT files from the same recording.
